This is must read information about the process
The wheels we use to make Low Profile
tires work are cut from alloy cores designed for the over the road trucking
market. Don’t think that the wheels that are forged and machined by the truck
wheel manufacturers are close enough to the standards that are required for the
light truck market. We have pulled many a new alloy wheel out of the box and
found some to runout from .007 to .015 “. on measured
samples. Just imagine with your best luck you have 2 alloy wheels and 2 steel
inners on the rear of your dually that you bought in a box and all are at
minimal runout. Factory steel wheels are notorious
for unevenness, many are .025 or greater. I have seen new steel wheels with
over .050 of runout. Most tires are 32 to 40 inches
in diameter. Stack up the tightest tolerances. This gives you 6 to 8 times the
magnification at the lateral outside on each axle on the ground. Using even the
best tires on uneven rims, you would not like the bumpy ride quality. With our
wheels, that is just not going to happen. We machine all steel wheels to .005”
to give a smooth ride, every time.
Alloy wheels get very special
treatment. Before we trim any of the beads or “shave a wheel” as the street
talk defines this, we square the wheel at the mounting flange; we do this
before and after polishing. This brings the wheel within .003 inch of being
dead true. Once that is accomplished we turn the bead diameter to the proper
diameter for ideal tire seating and air pressure control. After this process,
even small balancing weights are seldom required to have a great ride.
Before you spend a great deal of
money with your local wheel guy for Lo-Pro wheels, please ask him about his
source for the product. If you get a
badly cut wheel, you can’t add enough material with a wire gun to fix it
properly. You are just out $400 to $900, so ask questions before you buy.

Front wheels have a
flange thickness of .750 inch. When mounting tires larger than 35”X12.5”, we
recommend using 2 fronts + 2 maximum thickness along with offset adaptors to
clear the springs.

WHEEL POLISHING
Surface condition of wheels determines the cost to
finish/refinish any wheel
Grade 1 Wheels will be considered new if mill
finished areas have absolutely no marks/scratches.
Grade 2 Wheels are polished wheels with light marks
and/or scratches
Grade 3 Wheels are rough and may have some corrosion
in the wheel and flange.
Grade 4 Wheels have serious corrosion and marks with
gouges.
Following prices do
not include bent wheels to be straightened or any welding required.
